Blue Star Memorial Markers

The Blue Star Memorial Marker Program of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. began in 1945 to honor the men and women serving in the Armed Forces during World War II. The name was chosen for the star on flags displayed in homes and businesses denoting a family member serving. Garden clubs pictured a ribbon of living memorial plantings traversing every state. The Blue Star Memorial Program grew to extend thousands of miles across continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii. All men and women who have served, are serving, or will serve in the Armed Forces of the United States are included. There are 91 Markers located in New York State and 3,085 Nationwide. The most recent Memorial Marker placed in our in our District was sponsored by the Tioronda Garden Club on Armed Forces Day, 2019.

Creating and Maintaining Beautiful Spaces

In District Three, many of our garden clubs play a crucial role in enhancing community aesthetics and promoting environmental awareness. These dedicated groups of gardening enthusiasts come together with a shared passion for creating, planting, and maintaining gardens in their towns and at historic sites. Sites may include public parks, school grounds, and historical landmarks, ensuring that their projects not only beautify the area but also educate the community about local history and ecology.
